As of 2026, Marriott has implemented a soft landing policy. Members who do not requalify drop by only one tier rather than losing status entirely. For example, a Platinum Elite member who does not requalify would become Gold Elite rather than reverting to basic Member status. The soft-landed status is valid through February 2027.
